The perch - the most entertaining fishing I know. The little rascals have a lot of fun with the light harness. The perch has no closed season in MV and can therefore be fished all year round. The minimum dimension in inland waters is 17cm and in coastal waters 20cm. My personal removal window for perch is at least 25 cm and max. 35 cm.
The most popular spots on our island of Rügen include ports such as Ralswiek (note: Ralswiek is generally closed to fishing in the summer from May to the end of October). But things really get going in autumn and spring, quantities of 30-40 in 2-3 hours are not uncommon. Unfortunately, many ports are now closed to fishing all year round (e.g. Sellin, Gager or Thiessow). In the port of Baabe, fishing is possible at any time, except during the spawning sanctuary period from April 1st to May 31st of each year. Here you only have to pay attention to the ferry traffic and release the pier from the rowing ferry.
👌🏻 Incidentally, right next to the harbor in Baabe there is one of the best restaurants with creative, fresh and regional cuisine on the island. For more information or to reserve a table, please DM me. You can find examples of the culinary highlights on my Instagram account or here on my website.👌🏻
In addition to the two "Jasmunder Bodden" (large and small one), the "Rügische Bodden", the "Greifswalder Bodden", "Kubitzer Bodden", "Wieker Bodden" and the "Strelasund" are also very reliable perch areas. But here you can hardly avoid a boat. Although we have so much water around Ruegen, the places to fish from land are few and far between. There are also a few lakes on the island that are managed by the LAV-MV. "Garz lake" and "Kniepow lake" are among them. Here you need an extra fishing permit from the LAV-MV. The perch that I have caught so far, however, were not larger than 25cm.
My favorite and most successful method of perch fishing is the dropshot rig. To test whether there is fish, I always start with natural baits (e.g. Dendrobena, half a worm, small shrimp). If it turns out that perch are there, I also like to switch to artificial bait and usually use this to select the larger specimens. Small rubber fish, spinners, jig spinners or even chatterbaits have proven to be very successful.
About the equipment: I usually fish a 1.96cm perch rod with a casting weight between 6g and 21g. A braided line with a maximum load capacity of 6kg is wound on the 2500 reel, so it has a diameter of between 0.10mm and 0.14mm. The dropshot rig is made of 0.20-0.28mm fluorocarbon. As a hook I use super-sharp dropshot hooks of sizes 1 to 2. I always leave the lower end of the rig free when preparing so that I can play with the right weights on the water. The leads are between 7 and 14g depending on the wind and current. I basically build my own rigs.
Fried filleted or smoked whole, the perch is a very tasty fish. You can also vacuum fillet it, then it will keep frozen for at least 6 months. I'm currently experimenting with different smoke chips to see how they can affect the flavor of a fatty or less fatty fish. I will report on this.
Petri Heil!
